What is Natural UC II from Healthy Origins?
Natural UC-II contains standardized chicken cartilage, which is a very good source of type II collagen . UC ll® is produced using a patented, low-energy, non-enzymatic manufacturing process that does not alter the collagen. This process ensures better bioavailability of the collagen.
What is collagen?
Collagen is a so-called structural protein that is found in many parts of the body : skin, bones, teeth, blood vessels. Collagen is also the most abundant protein in the human body , accounting for 30% .
It exists in different types , each of which fulfills a specific function . Type II collagen , for example, is a fiber-forming collagen and is mainly found in cartilage tissue .
Collagen itself consists mainly of the two amino acids glycine and proline, but hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine are also among its building blocks[1].
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) plays an important role in the formation of collagen. Without vitamin C, the incorporation of hydroxyl groups is not possible. The hydroxyl groups are necessary for stable cross-linking of the proteins and enable the formation of a collagen matrix[2].
