What is vitamin A?
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and is divided into a group of compounds. These include, for example, retinol, which transports vitamin A within the body , retinal and retinoic acid[1].
Retinol is also known as vitamin A1 and is considered the strongest form of vitamin A. The body cannot produce retinol itself, so it can only be obtained from food [2].
It is found in animal and plant foods . In the latter, such as oranges, carrots or spinach, the precursor beta-carotene can be found, which can be converted into retinol by the body as required.[1 ] Cod liver oil in particular is rich in vitamin A.[3]
Codliver oil is a purified and high-quality oil made from the liver of fish of the Gadidae family .
