When you buy astaxanthin from Healthy Origins, you receive 60 soft capsules containing the patented AstaPure®, supplemented with vitamins A and E and the carotenoid lutein. One capsule contains a dosage of 12mg astaxanthin AstaPure®, from Haematococcus pluvialis extract, 39 mcg vitamin A (as beta-carotene), 6.7 mg vitamin E (D-alpha-tocopherol,) and 220 mcg lutein. The soft capsule form makes it easy and convenient to take.
The preparation Triple Strength Astaxanthin from Healthy Origins contains the popular, natural carotenoid astaxanthin in the patented and high-quality form AstaPure® in a highly concentrated form. The added vitamins A and E as well as the carotenoid lutein support the antioxidant properties of the product. The product contains no gluten and was produced without genetic engineering.
Astaxanthin is a natural colorant from the xantophyll group of carotenoids. The carotenoids give fruit and vegetables their red, yellow and orange color. [ 1 ] Like all carotenoids, astaxanthin is fat-soluble.
The antioxidant carotenoid comes from Haematococcus pluvialis,[2] also known as blood rain algae. Botanically speaking, the algae belongs to the green algae family and lives in fresh water, e.g. in lakes and ponds, but it can also be found in pools of holy water. In mountains it is responsible for red snow.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin. In animal foods it is found as retinyl palmitate or retinyl acetate , while in plant foods it is present in the form of the precursor beta-carotene (provitamin A).[3] The following functions of vitamin A have been scientifically established:
Foods rich in vitamin A include liver, kale and carrots[3].
Vitamin E is also a fat-soluble vitamin. Vitamin E occurs naturally in eight different tocopherol and tocotrienol compounds , with alpha-tocopherol being the main form of vitamin E, which is also the best researched form of vitamin E.[5]
Like astaxanthin ,lutein is a carotenoid and, like astaxanthin , is a natural pigment[6] that is responsible for the yellow coloration of many different types of fruit and vegetables. The main sources of lutein are dark leafy vegetables and marigold flowers [6 ].
