What is vitamin K2 MK7 from Healthy Origins?
The abbreviation MK-7 stands for menaquinone-7, a form of vitamin K2. Menaquinone-7 is particularly well absorbed by the body and, unlike other forms of vitamin K2 , can be detected in the blood for a very long time .

What is vitamin K2?
Vitamin K has two natural forms: the plant phylloquinone (vitamin K1) and bacterial menaquinone (vitamin K2).
The following statements have been scientifically established regarding the effect of vitamin K in the body:
- Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting
- Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones
These statements apply to both vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. However, while vitamin K1 primarily supports blood clotting , vitamin K2 plays an important role in bone mineralization. Vitamin K2 activates two important proteins: osteocalcin and matrix GLA protein. These two proteins transport calcium from the food in the blood to the bones and also prevent calcium from being deposited in the tissue or blood vessels .
Good sources of vitamin K1 are plant foods such as green leafy vegetables. Vitamin K2 , on the other hand, is only found in animal foods such as eggs, meat and dairy products as well as fermented foods such as sauerkraut [1].
